About us
“Initiatives of Paul Xu Guangqi” is a group of people spontaneously formed for the purpose of supporting Italy to fight with Covid-19 through free donations.
On the evening of March 21, Prof. Rachel Zhu Xiaohong learnt that Gemelli Hospital in Rome desperately needed medical protection supplies to fight with Covid-19, so she contacted with some friends and made a wish to donate 10000 medical masks to the hospital as their support. Once the news was spreaded out through Wechat, more friends eagerly join them for the donation. Catholic donors urged to enlarge and multiply our donation targets when they got known that over 60 priests had died of the horrible plague and ecclesiastical communites seriously lacked of the protective materials in the pandemic. A Wechat group with more than 500 people was formed in order to make the details of donation open and transparent.

Friendship at Covid19 time
“Initiatives of Paul Xu Guangqi” is the name of our WeChat group, commemorating the deep friendship which was built between Father Matteo Ricci, the greatest pioneer of the Catholic Church in China, and Paul Xu Guangqi, the very first Catholic in Shanghai, in accordance with their spirit of solidarity and fraternity, “a firend is nothing more than the half of myself; good friends are suppoused to help and support each other for the worldly life is unpredictbale”.

News
As of April 23, a total of 316,750 masks, 65,000 pairs of gloves, 4310 pieces of protective clothing, and 2,500 pairs of goggles were sent. Among them, 63,000 masks, 1470 pairs of goggles, and 25,000 pairs of gloves have been sent to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Rome; 40,000 medical masks, 30,000 pairs of gloves, 3000 pieces of gowns, and 6000 civilian masks were sent to the Paris Notre Dame Foundation ; 20,000 medical surgical masks, 500 pieces of isolation clothing, and 10,000 civilian masks were sent to the Sacred Heart Center of California Jesuits. The remaining more than 200,000 masks were sent to the pension and social service agencies affiliated to the churches in Italy and Spain. It also ordered 100,000 civilian masks to be issued for help next week.
From the original intention of donating only 10,000 masks to today, with the efforts of everyone in the group, the generosity of so many donors, such as employees of logistics and freight forwarding companies, drivers of cargo pullers, and various kinds have not been seen at all. The silent dedication of the people heard ... I can only say that the whole journey is full of miracles every day. There is too much gratitude in our hearts.
